This is a small gouache landscape painted during the Mars frenzy in 1997. It's pink and small and would be a nice piece to adopt for a nice home to think about outer worlds.

The artist, Austin Thomas, writes:

Because I fell in love with it over tea and a shared cupcake with Austin, sharing like minded and connected thoughts in a little bit of sugar sweet sunshine.

I like how it makes me think of David Bowie's life on mars album, its gentle simplicity, delicate color and the balance of image with use of text, always a hard thing to pull off successfully. A little gem, one of my favorite things. The power a small painting can exude, is always surprising and telling.

This artwork will find a home on my wall of special treasures by fellow artists friends and those I have worked with (Tattfoo Tan, Maggie Michaels, Esther Harris, Lori Nix, Kiki Seror). I have a feeling it will be placed beside a miniature Liz Zanis etching with a backward image of the Brooklyn Kentile sign. They would make great companions.

They will be hung in my lovely and luckily(fortunately) not too expensive apartment by the expansive and healing Prospect Park, which I share with a big characterful boy cat Franco, and a tiny girl cat with the softest velvet fur called Tillie who were adopted via an a good friend and artist Clary Corey.

I am deeply entrenched in the artworld on many levels - from painter, to curator, running a non-profit with gallery and residency program, to working with dealers in the commercial world.

In short, art is life, life is art - life on Austin's "mars" might just be the escape I need once in a while.....

Hope it finds its way to my planet.

Thanks in advance for reading my plea.

best
