My day job used to be training animals for Phil's Animal Rentals, supplying animals for Film and booking them in jobs. A bit like an animal agent, “and what does the monkey have to do” that kind of thing. In my Behind the Scenes Series, there is a colorful, playful mixing of narrative painting and celebrity reality in the behind the scenes series. There is a playful relationship between the figurative style and the reality culture of the subject. I think of it a bit like modern history painting, but instead of a great noble war it is the antics of Paris Hilton and the pony that I am depicting.

I was looking for something offbeat, original and dramatic. Zohan Camel, a 2008 painting by Los Angeles artist Amy Bernays fit the bill. It looks fantastic in my livingroom and is a real showpiece. I feel fortunate to have found FAAN and to have discovered this talented artist.
