I received this lovely piece in the mail today and it looks ravishingly beautiful. It reminds me of either a Stephen Shore or Wiliam Eggleston approach but in a unique style which is Wooley's. The formalism and its postmodern self-referential aspects are not evident in eitiher Shore or Eggleston but Wooley alludes to the geometric structures of Mondrian and medieval cathedrals.
The broken windows or lack of them is suggested in the open portals of the house. One can see a visual joke that the cropping of the house suggests a head very distorted with a smile drawn at the bottom of the photograph. Like a Condo distortion one can see the ravishing ironic smile on the viewer like a hefty joke of Duchamp pulled over the head of the viewer...
I traded this for 2 pieces from my "industrial landscapes" series exhibited at the modern8 gallery in downtown Salt Lake City from November 2007 to January 2008.
