Carol Radsprecher
I was born and still live in Brooklyn, with a Manhattan studio. I got my MFA in painting from Hunter College, CUNY, in 1988 (I received a BFA in painting in 1985, also from Hunter). I have painted for many years and have had solo exhibitions in the Pierro Gallery at South Orange (New Jersey); the Garrison Art Center (Garrison, New York); Get Real Art Gallery (New York City); and Thompson Park Art Exhibition Series (Lyncroft, New Jersey). I have been in many group shows. Reproduction of my paintings have been published in “small” art and literary magazines and journals.
I have also received several awards for my work.
This work is part of an ongoing series in which figurative and abstract elements are combined. These paintings are somewhat narrative; formal issues are also very important to me. In this work, a figure (or figures) struggles in an uncomfortable and precarious environment. The figures exist in the aftermath of attack and can be erased at any moment. There is the possibility, even the probability, of their violent, sudden death. That being said, there is still joy, free-floating movement, and fun to be had.
