Artist Statement:
My recent work investigates the increasing isolation of the individual in western society. Every day we grow more culturally disconnected from the people who surround us and we have adopted surrogate communities in the form of commercial entities such as corporate brands and television characters. This commoditization of community has led to a society bereft of the intimacy that was once a crucial part of interpersonal relationships between peers in a social group. It is in this chasm between us that one can find and explore the residue of those connections.

The language of my pictures is derived, to some degree, from the structure of poetry. In the same way the poetic language gains power through the distillation of language, imagery becomes more potent when extracted from its environment and context. It is in isolation that these images become part of the poem, placed in a new context and imbued with supplementary meaning.
