At an outdoor auction, I found a discarded box containing one inch square fabric pieces—the makings of a quilt. The works in mending series are constructed using these quilt squares, thread and sewing/drawing on Punjab rag paper (made from old shredded rags). My grandmother made quilts, used them on every bed and had stacks in her attic. As a child, I was fascinated by the colors and patterns—the juxtapositions of the materials and forms. Unfolding a quilt, held an entire world and history of clothes made and scraps saved for another us
