I made this little diptych experimenting with a brush and ink. The ball I painted later with gouache.

The artist, Nicholas Holliday, writes:
Eve contacted me saying that she liked this piece and humorously disputing the text (CATS IS GOOD/DOGS IS BETTER). After 16 years of cat ownership, she now had a puppy, which was pretty high maintenance, so she wasn't sure. She felt that adopting this diptych would give her some hope that things with the puppy would get easier. This had me seeing my piece a little differently. I told her that the text was meant to be nonsensical as well as a little about my process in making it. To this, she responded that she would now see the work a little differently, herself, and that this really did feel to her like a genuine "adoption" process. I agree.
