this drawing was made during a period of time when half of the work i was making included cut logs, and the other half included sliced meat, particularly of the non-kosher variety. at the time, i was thinking of how the US's political leadership and american corporate power place value in life only when it's perceived as fuel. with this drawing, i was figuring out how to build a sculpture that could tether a group of logs, to create a tension and suspension with weight. the logs i imagine as psychologized subjects, affiliated before this encounter. i see them as both working in unison and opposition against the red flag, and as participators in a mutual strengthening and expansion of a collective effort.
