How many times did we write the alphabet in school? The repititive process of learning and the shapes of the letters was on my mind when making this monotype.

EXCERPTS FROM MY CORRESPONDANCE WITH THE ARTIST TELLS THE STORY WELL. IN ONE OF MY FIRST E-MAILS TO BRECE HONEYCUTT, I WROTE:

"I am particularly drawn to your use of words as images but am hesitant to ask to adopt 'Green Alphabet' only because I am one of the artists on FAAN . . .

And yet 'Green Alphabet' beckons. [For some time] I have been thinking about the relation of words and visual objects and how each relates experience differently.

I hope to give a talk or a workshop about this and would like to have some examples of original works of art that employ words, one of the reasons for my attraction to your work (actually it was an e-mail discussion with another FAAN artist about your work that gave me the idea for the workshop).

TOLD THAT I WOULD BE ABLE TO ADOPT "GREEN ALPHABET," I MADE ARRANGEMENTS WITH THE ARTIST TO PICK UP THE WORK WHEN SHE WAS IN NEW YORK. OUR MEETING WAS A RICH EXCHANGE OF IDEAS. HOURS LATER, WHEN I GOT TO SEE 'GREEN ALPHABET' FOR THE FIRST TIME (other than at the FAAN site), I WROTE TO THE ARTIST:

"Well Brece, I just unwrapped 'Green Alphabet' and my immediate reaction was, 'I just love it!' The whole thing feels like the process of writing/drawing as one and the same thing and they are! [Your piece] is so immediate, evolving each second I look at it. It makes me happy. Thank you for the generosity. So much to say. Let the conversation continue . . ."
